Farmers Bank of Appomattox held a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon for its new branch office at 8112 Timberlake Road in Lynchburg.
The bank lobby was filled with visitors who arrived to take part in the event. After remarks were made by Farmers Bank of Appomattox President and CEO John Caldwell, Chief Operations Officer Tom Rasey, and Timberlake Road Branch Manager Vonnie Brooks, many visitors went outside for the ribbon cutting.
A public reception was then held with light beverages and catered food.
Farmers Bank of Appomattox was founded in 1918 and is based in Appomattox with a main office and branch office in town, plus additional branches in Farmville, Dillwyn and Concord. The newly-opened Lynchburg branch brings the total to six.
Caldwell explained why the company chose to expand into the Lynchburg area.
"We have a lot of our customers that work and live in this area," he said. "I've always felt like it was a strategic vision for us to be able to provide convenient banking here for them to be able to access during working hours."
The Timberlake Road bank officially opened for business Jan. 16.
