The Appomattox Raiders baseball team is one a three-game winning streak on the heels of two more wins last week. the Raiders outscored Altavista 14-17 at home on Wednesday, May 8 and took a road trip to defeat Nelson County 4-1 on Friday.
Appomattox improved to 12-4 overall (8-2 in the Dogwood District) heading into the final week of the regular season.
The Raiders celebrate Senior Night tonight against Gretna at5:30 p.m.
The Altavista Colonels struck first against the Raiders, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Xavier Brumfield scored on a sacrifice fly and Eric Nichols scored on a single by Colby Haskins after stealing third base on a previous pitch.
Appomattox quickly even the score in the bottom of the first. Leadoff hitter Trey Shrock reached third base on a dropped deep fly ball by the Altavista center fielder, and then scored on a single by the next batter, Nate Dillon. Dillon later tied the game, scoring on a single by Kyle Davis.
