On April 5, the Appomattox Raiders boys soccer team tallied its first win of the 2023 season, defeating the Buckingham Knights by a score of 9-1 and improving their record to 0-2-1 going into spring break.
Four Raiders scored two goals apiece (Charlie Drinkard, Brady Fulcher, Billy O’Neill and Corey Williams). Max Nitti scored the team’s other goal. O’Neill served his teammates with four assists, while Fulcher added three and Williams and Gabe Nitti added one.
The overall health of the team was key to their first triumph, as head coach Evans Thomas explained.
“This was the first time since halfway through the first game of the season where we were 90 percent healthy. Injuries have plagued us until today, and it showed,” Thomas said. “Hopefully, when the season resumes after spring break, we will finally be 100 percent healthy.”
