On September 14th, the Appomattox Raiders hosted the Alta Vista Colonels, with Appomattox winning in three sets, 25 to 14, 25 to 21, 25 to 23.
Appomattox coach Mark Drinkard said the Raiders played well in all aspects of the match against a very tough team. “[Our] blocking was key, and our serving was good,” said Drinkard. “Our strength was on defense and continues to allow us to compete at a high level. Our serve is improving, but not where we want it to be. The girls are working hard to get better.”
Cora Melton and Shannon Coleman performed well in blocking, while Georgia Mills and Sarai Glover filled in nicely for injured starter Emily Dudley.
Reagan Shields had 14 kills, Shannon Cole- man had six and Cora Melton had three. Aubrey Fulcher had four aces, Shields had four, and Pais- ley Mann had three. Melton had eight blocks and Coleman had three. Mann had 15 digs and Mills had nine. Aubrey Fulcher had 27 assists for the Raiders.
