The Appomattox Raiders baseball team topped off the 2023 regular season with two wins in the final week of action, completing a five-game winning streak. The Raiders scored a 5-2 home win over the Gretna Hawks on Wednesday, May 17 and a 5-3 road win at William Campbell on Friday, May 19.

Appomattox finished the season with a 14-4 overall record, placing second in the Dogwood District (10-2) behind Chatham (18-2, 11-1).

To begin their quest for a hopeful return to the VHSL Class 2 state playoffs, the Raiders will host a Region 2C quarterfinal tonight at 6 p.m. Appomattox enters the postseason as the defending Class 2 state champion after winning it all in 2022.

Senior Night was celebrated against Gretna, with Alex Caruso, Trey Shrock, Wyatt Sisk, Nate Dillon, Zach Busa, Jimmie Wells, Matt Epperson and E.B. Rachman receiving honors. The Class of 2023 was part of a team that compiled a 41-6 varsity record up to this point, which included two seasons that were interrupted (one canceled) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
