Saturday was still a few days away for the opening of bow season. I had my stand picked out that I was going to use. Like clockwork, the deer would cross over the railroad tracks and enter a small field that lead into a big field. My stand was about 10 yards inside the woods. I had a wide open shot to the open field.
Once the deer crossed the railroad tracks they would walk right toward me. They would either walk right into the woods or follow the tree line to the bottom of the big field. I had another stand 100 yards across this field in the corner of the woods and the open field.
Howard asked me if I wanted to practice a little. I was shooting an old recurved bow. Back then there were no sights on a bow, you had to shoot instinctively. My second problem was I couldn’t hold back the string that long before my arm started shaking.
