AHS holds dance review
The Floyd Ward Dance Review, with Appomattox pupils taking part, was presented at the Appomattox High School auditorium. A silver offering was taken, with proceeds given to the Parent-Teacher Association. Some of the musical numbers performed by student and teacher dancers were “Jingle Bells,” “Sleepy Time Gal,” “Scotch Dolls,” “Ballerinas,” “Candy Canes,” “Spun Sugar,” “Toy Soldiers,” Dream Fairies,” “Doll Dance,” “Lucky Stars” and “Sleeping Beauty.”

Two nabbed at burglary of History Junction stores
A man and woman were arrested in connection with a burglary at the History Junction Shopping Center. While on routine patrol, Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office deputy Mike Williamson noticed a car parked behind the shopping center at 10 p.m. While talking to the woman who was in the car he saw a cash drawer from a cash register in the back seat. At that time the man exited the Betty Brite Cleaners store carrying a television and wall phone.
Vandals hit Appomattox youth park
Vandalism was a problem at the Appomattox Children’s Park off of Evergreen Avenue, costing the town’s taxpayers thousands of dollars in repair costs. Vandals broke windows, scrawled graffiti inside the caboose, trashed the car, tore up swings, broke the see- saw boards, and tore the plywood off the roofs of two playhouses.

Area preacher writes book
Rev. Larry Davies, pastor of United Methodist Church in Keysville, published his book entitled “In A World Gone Bonkers,” a collection of columns he has written over the years that grew out of his deep concern over a variety of issues such as “sex, abortion, death, the things the church wasn’t supposed to talk about,” he said.
Waters, Puckett announce engagement
The engagement of Margaret Elizabeth Waters to Darrel W. Puckett was announced. At the time of the announcement, Waters was employed as a teacher with Campbell County Public Schools and Puckett had a private law practice in Appomattox County.

AES receives talking globe
The Oakville Ruritan Club donated Leapfrog’s Interactive Talking Explorer Globe to the Appomattox Elementary School. The automated tool allows users to travel around the world playing games and learning thousands of world facts.
