Andrew Dalton Elder Sr., 70, departed this life, after a brief illness, with his family by his side. He entered into the arms of Jesus Christ on July 21, 2018. He is the son of the late John Thomas and Helen Mann Elder, from Pamplin, VA. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Clara Hurt Elder; his son, Andrew Dalton Elder Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Christy Martin Elder; grandsons, Andrew Logan and Landon Dalton Elder of Pamplin; and a sister, Elizabeth Elder Baldwin of Hixburg. Special friends are Frances Reeves, George Adams and Betty Smith, all of Pamplin, VA. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Thomas Elder of Pamplin, and Ella Elder Trent of Farmville. He worked in textile at Pamplin Garment Factory, Appomattox Garment Factory, Star Children’s Dress in Amelia and was working at STEPS in Farmville and Victoria prior to his death. In early years he loved softball and was a USSSA umpire. Dalton loved working on sewing machines, maintenance work, farming and raising his cows. He also loved his grandsons and helping others in any way he could. Another of his great loves was the Pamplin Fire Dept., where he was a member for 50 years and chief for 35 years. A visitation was held on Monday, July 23, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pamplin Fire House with other times at his home. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the Pamplin Fire House with burial following in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating Services were Anthony Reeves and David Sexton. Shorter Funeral Home is serving the family.
