Barbara J. Venzke of Virginia Beach and widow of Rear Admiral Norman C. Venzke, passed on July 23rd 2022 at Our Lady Perpetual Help in Virginia Beach.
Barbara was the daughter of Harry G. and Gladys P Johnson, predeceased her as well as sister Rebecca and husband Lloyd Hudson and sister Dorothy and husband Kenneth Coleman. Survivors, nephew Ken Coleman, who was like a son to Barbara Anne, and wife Marie and niece Pat Rice and husband Phil, and 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews.
She was born and raised in Lynchburg and Appomattox Virginia and graduated from Appomattox High School and attended Phillips Business College. She took a temporary job with Congressman Watkins Abbitt that was supposed to last 5 months and turned into 20 years until his retirement. After that she was employed by Rep. Hale Boggs, Congressman Robert Daniel and then in 1980 she went to work in the private sector for Robert Keith Gray of Gray and Company, who co-chaired the President Ronald Regan’s Inaugural Committee. While working on Capitol Hill, she was named Capitol Hill Secretary of the Day, an honor she was very proud of. She was an avid lover of cats, and had many during her life as companions. A wonderful person who loved people and her Church. She lived a fruitful and exciting life and blessed many people.
Services will be held at St. Michaels Lutheran Church August 6th at 10:00 and her cremated remains will be buried at her Mother’s feet in Liberty Cemetery, Appomattox Virginia.
