Ernest Nisser Jr.

Ernest Nisser Jr., lovingly known as Ernie, passed away on April 1, 2023, at the age of 93, at Farmville, Virginia Hospital. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to his father, Ernest Gustav Nisser, and his mother, Helen (Kurz) Nisser.

Ernie was a hardworking man. After learning to lay bricks from his father, he pursued a career in construction. He owned construction companies in the Maryland area and Pamplin VA. He also held several positions in other companies. Even in his eighties, Ernie was still laying cinderblocks. He truly enjoyed his crab and desserts, he'd always ask, "Got something good to eat?" People who knew him would say that he was a good guy.

Ernie is survived by his son, Ernest Samson, (Claudia) Eugene, OR and his daughter, Judy Diane (Nisser) Johnson, of Pamplin VA formerly WI. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Daniel Sr. (Patty) Az, his grandchildren, Nickolas Nisser, Charlotte (Nisser), (Charles) Allen, Mallika (Nisser), (Todd) Egan, Rose Marie Johnson - Zamora, Theresa Johnson - Alvizar, and his great-grandchildren, Mahala Hardy, Erich Legg, Hans and Carlos Allen, Alicia Zamora, Brenden (Madison Dzioba) Zamora, Francesca Martinez, Jorge Alvizar, Alexa Alvizar, AnnaBeth, Madalynn, Rayann Johnson, Great-Great Granddaughter Rosalinda Portillo, and a baby due in July. Additionally, Ernie leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parent's, sisters, Betty Jean McNair, Shirley Mae Ray, brother Richard Everett, nephew Doug Wells, and grandsons Josh Hardy and Allen J Johnson.

Ernie attended primary and high school in Des Moines, Iowa, attended tech school in Chicago, where he studied civil engineering. He also served in the Army's special forces during the Korean War.

Ernie's career was focused on construction projects for state, counties, and Baltimore City, in addition he constructed metal buildings and numerous industrial buildings. He also managed two sites for a defense contractor.

Ernie hobbies included boxing and obtained the status of Golden Gloves Champion. and an instructor at the Arthur Murray School of Dance. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Iowa and he trained and raced horses as a member of the Virginia Racing Commission.

He attended Elon Baptist Church in Pamplin VA, where a memorial service for Ernie will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 2 p.m., followed by a gathering in the Fellowship Hall. Ernie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
