Doris Clapp Bean, 85, of Powhatan passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, VA. She was the wife of the late Maynard Kenneth Bean for 62 years.
Born on August 12, 1938, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late J. Allen Clapp and Alice Mayberry Clapp.
Doris held a Master’s degree in education and retired from the Richmond public school system. During her lifetime, Doris rescued numerous cats, which she loved. She also supported many animal shelters and rescues.
She is survived by two sisters, Brenda Franklin and husband, John, and Ruth Bane and husband, Harold; one brother, Gary Clapp and wife, Sandra all of Appomattox; four nieces, Charlotte Justis, Rachel Robbins, Jamie Bane, and Elizabeth Arrington; numerous great nieces and nephews; and close friends and neighbors, Fred and Cindy Pierce.
A private burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery.
