Sharon Elizabeth Walker went to be with our Lord on February 29, 2024. She was 76 years old.
Sharon was born on December 19, 1947, in Asheville, North Carolina, to William and Louise Kidwell. She was raised in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. After high school, Sharon attended Georgia State University, where she studied journalism.
In 2000, Sharon moved to Arlington, Virginia, to pursue a career with the United States Army as a journalist and editor. She was a gifted writer and editor who excelled in her career.
Following her retirement, Sharon moved to the Appomattox area to fulfill a long-held dream of owning land and being closer to nature.
Later in life, Sharon served as an advocate for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). She had a soft heart and believed every boy or girl experiencing difficult and challenging circumstances deserves an advocate who is there to speak up and to pursue the child’s best interests.
Sharon will be remembered as a kind-hearted person with a good sense of humor. She spread warmth and kindness to all whose lives intersected with hers. She also cared deeply for all of God’s creatures. She will be profoundly missed.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents and her late husband, Harold S. Walker, III. She is survived by her children, Stephanie (Gregg) Brown and Michael (Stephanie) Evenson; grandsons Patrick (Hannah), Chase, Nicholas (Theresa), Samuel, Jackson and Maxwell; three great-granddaughters (Caroline, Joanna and Lilly); her brothers, Hal (Shirley) Kidwell and Michael (Natisha) Kidwell; and many other extended family.
A memorial service will be held on March 9, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Methodist Church in Concord, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CASA of Central Virginia in memory of Sharon. www.cvcasa.org/donate
Though her physical presence may be gone, Sharon’s spirit will live on. The family is heartened by her strong Christian faith and the assured knowledge that she is with her Lord. May she rest in peace, knowing that her love and light will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched.
