Alexander W. Lloyd, 24, of Appomattox died on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 11 due to injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash in Prince Edward County earlier that morning.
Virginia State Police have reported that they received an emergency call at 12:57 a.m. to the area of Route 15 near Route 133.
According to a press release from Virginia State Police spokeswoman Susan Rowland, the driver of a 2001 Ford Mustang, who was not named in the report, lost control of the car.
Lloyd was the lone passenger in the Mustang.
After veering off the right side of the road, the Mustang crashed into a street sign and several trees before flipping over.
When rescue crews arrived, Lloyd was alive but in critical condition. He passed away later that morning at Southside Community Hospital.
Although the crash is under investigation, speed is a suspected cause and charges are likely to be filed.
Lloyd was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred, but the driver was not and was thrown from the car upon impact.
