On Thursday evening, Oct. 1, WoodmenLife Chapter 71 members Rodney Deaner and President Mary Marshall presented Jonathan Garrett of the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department with a check in the amount of $10,000.

The money will be used toward the new fire truck the department is planning to purchase.

“The local chapter of WoodmenLife understands the importance of protecting families in our local community and communities across the nation,” a press release stated. “This is one way WoodmenLife can give back to the citizens of Appomattox.”

“Since 1890, WoodmenLife has stood strong in its commitment to family, community and country,” the press release added. “Its first responders are our true heroes, which is why WoodmenLife will pay $25,000 to the families of every first responder member who dies in the line of duty. WoodmenLife joins with the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Dept. and its efforts to protect those whom they serve.”

The members of the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department expressed thanks to the Woodmen Life Chapter 71 and said they are deeply humbled and thankful for this contribution.
