Appomattox’s new mayor, Richard Conner, sat at the helm for the first time at the Appomattox town council meeting last Monday. A vice mayor was elected, and Conner made several committee appointments for the new fiscal year.
Councilwoman Mary Lou Spiggle nominated Timothy Garrett for vice-mayor. There were no other nominations. The council voted unanimously in favor of electing Garrett for vice-mayor.
Conner appointed councilman Paul Harvey, the former mayor, to the Town of Appomattox Planning Commission. He also appointed council members Claudia Puckette and Mary Lou Spiggle to serve on the Town of Appomattox Economic Development Authority.
For the Town of Appomattox Finance Committee, Conner assigned Claudia Puckette, Jonathan Garrett and Paul Harvey to the committee. He appointed Timothy Garrett, Spiggle and Nathan Simpson to the Town of Appomattox Physical Development Committee. The town council approved the committee appointments.
