Carver-Price Museum lease terms clarified at county board meeting

During the Monday, Sept. 19, meeting of the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors, a letter of request was presented by Ora McCoy, president of the Carver-Price Legacy Museum Executive Board, for the purpose of renewing or modifying the museum’s current lease agreement.

The request was made for an automatic renewal, at the option of the tenant, provided that the tenant continues its nonprofit status and objectives for the space occupied by Carver-Price Legacy Museum.”

Additionally, a request was made for the Carver-Price Legacy Museum to be granted the option to “purchase the leased property if the property should ever be up for public auction.”

The Carver-Price Legacy Museum’s current lease expires in 2025 at the Carver-Price Complex, which also houses the Appomattox branch of the Central Virginia Community College (CVCC).

The primary concern expressed by McCoy was that the museum’s future might be in doubt if the entire facility is purchased by Bruce Boone and Appomattox Christian Academy (ACA), which recently signed a lease to develop a vocational training center in a portion of the building.
