Local fire and rescue crews were busy over the past weekend as heavy rains caused flooding in Appomattox County as well as other locations in Central Virginia.

Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD), Concord Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD), Concord Appomattox Swiftwater Team (C.A.S.T.), Campbell County Swiftwater Team (CCST Appomattox County Sheriff's Office, Concord Rescue Squad, American Red Cross, Virginia Department of Transportation, and other crews assisted in the emergency situations.

According to the AVFD Facebook page, excessive rainfall prompted calls for downed trees with involved power lines, motor vehicle crashes, hazardous conditions, and water rescues in Appomattox and Campbell counties.
