The Virginia Department of Health’s Piedmont Health District announced the start of its COVID-19 vaccination campaign on Jan. 6.

Because the supply of COVID-19 vaccine in the United States is expected to be limited at first, CDC provided recommendations based on guidance from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to federal, state and local governments about who should be vaccinated first.

Currently, health care personnel are eligible for the vaccine (Phase 1a).

Some examples of healthcare personnel are, but not limited to, emergency medical service staff, physicians, nurses, dentists and pharmacists. Eligible healthcare personnel should contact their local health department to obtain a vaccination appointment at one of the following locations:

• Amelia County Health Department 804-561-2711.

• Buckingham County Health Department 434-969-4244.

• Charlotte County Health Department 434-542-5251.

• Cumberland County Health Department 804-492-4661.

• Lunenburg County Health Department 434-696-2346.

• Nottoway County Health Department 434-645-7595.

• Prince Edward County Health Department 434-392-8187.

Phase 1a also includes long-term care residents and staff that are being vaccinated through a federal partnership with CVS and Walgreens.
