The 13th annual National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims will be observed Friday, and the Virginia Victim Assistance Network (VVAN) encourages anyone who has been traumatized by homicide to get involved with a local support group.

In Appomattox, the fiscal year 2020-21 Homicide Support Group began its current sessions Sept. 14. Meetings are being held online via Zoom due to COVID-19 restrictions and concerns. The group plans to conduct 15 sessions, every Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Leading the online sessions is group facilitator and licensed clinician Joy Bagby. She is joined by Mary Anne Freshwater, director of the Appomattox CountyVictim/Witness Program that partnered with VVAN to begin the group in Appomattox.
