Band and majorettes meet Miss Virginia
The Appomattox High School band and majorettes were able to meet Miss Virginia Dorcas Campbell during the parade at the state championship jousting tournament in Farmville. The parade drew an estimated 12,000 people. Appomattox was one of four bands that participated.

Pamplin donates old home
The Pamplin Town Council donated an old home in the town to the Appomattox Rescue Squad and the Pamplin Fire Department to coordinate training exercises. The home located on Business 460 just east of Tolley’s Liquid Fertilizer is known as the “Old Foster Home.”

Smokey the Bear visits kids
Smokey the Bear paid a visit to Memorial United Methodist Church Daycare in Appomattox, giving the kids hugs and smiles.

State Police drops iconic tower
The Virginia State Police’s iconic red and white police tower came crashing to the ground as part of a controlled demolition at the facility. The freestanding steel tower had stood for 60 years in Appomattox.
