The Appomattox Town Council voted unanimously in its monthly meeting Monday night to appoint Clerk of Council Roxanne Casto to the position of interim town manager during the search for a new manager following Gary Shanaberger’s departure from the position next month.
She begins her duties effective Dec. 20. Shanaberger’s last day will be Jan. 7, so the appointment allows for a period of transition.
Council members met at length in a closed session for the “discussion of the potential appointment of a specific public employee of the town,” according to the official statement providing the reason for the session. Following the session, Mayor Richard Conner asked for “a motion on the acceptance of the contract between Roxanne Casto and the town council to serve as interim town manager.”
