Militia completes food, clothing and toy drive

The Appomattox County Militia, Community & Disaster Relief organization held a Food, Clothing and Unwrapped Toy Donation Drive, which ran until Saturday, Dec. 4, collecting these items for Appomattox County residents in need.

Setting up at the Christmas Fair at Courtland Field from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the group collected enough items to overflow the bed of a pickup truck. These items will be donated to Candlelight Ministries, which serves Appomattox County, and they will distribute all items to their clients they currently serve.

Earlier drop-off locations included AC Cycles and New Geneva Christian Education Center, where donors generously left non-perishable food items, clothing and unwrapped toys.

Working to collect even more items and monetary donations on Saturday, were AxMCDR members Mike Hyland, Gary and Jovita Barton, Sharon Harris, Tom Adams and Steve Boyer.

The group stated that it appreciates everyone who donated to this worthy cause, making the holiday season a little brighter for those who are struggling this year.

They plan to continue to have more Food/Clothing Drives next year.
