The Appomattox County School Board heard reflections of students and their teacher about their trip to Central America.

Appomattox County High School teacher Ashley Walker led students learning Spanish on a weeklong adventure to Costa Rica to learn more about the language, as well as their way of life.

Seventeen students went on the trip that Walker called an “immersion.”

“They were immersed in the language as much as possible. I set the bar at about seventy-five percent speaking the language,” she said.

Classes consisted of going into the towns and villages and communicating with the local people, from where to find items in a store to what is important to them about life.
