For the April and May billing periods of 2020, the Appomattox Town Council ratified the reduction of utility billing rates by 25 percent. The motion was made and carried at Tuesday’s town council workshop meeting.

Town Manager Gary Shanaberger said the staff crunched some numbers and said it averages out to $21,000 a month to reduce utility rates.

Councilwoman Mary Lou Spiggle said that was less than what they originally thought.

“The water and sewer are not going in the red because we are subsidizing it from the general fund,” said Spiggle.
