Ned Ryan of Appomattox proudly displays a lunker largemouth bass he caught last Wednesday afternoon in a private pond in the county. The bass weighed 9 pounds 5 ounces.

Jailbirds fighting

These jailbirds, Appomattox Town Mayor Ronnie Spiggle and Jim Ford spent last Wednesday in the lockup for the American Heart Association’s Cardiac Arrest. The event raises money by “arresting” deserving souls and then forcing them to raise “bail” all of which is donated to the American Heart Association.

Babcock inducted

Brad Babcock was inducted into James Madison University’s Sports Hall of Fame Friday April 17. Babcock coached JMU’s baseball team for 19 years and his teams won nearly 70 percent of their games.

The Appomattox jayvee baseball team defeated Jefferson Forest last Wednesday 11-10 behind the arm and bat of Johnny Sperry.
