Alma Ferguson Almond, 89, of Appomattox, died Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Runk and Pratt, Leesville Road, Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late George Washington Almond.
Born in Appomattox County on Jan. 17, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Viola Frances Smith and Edward I. Ferguson. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and retired from Courtland Manufacturing.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George E. “Spud” and Audrey I. Almond of Pamplin; two grandchildren, Wyatt D. Almond and wife, Tracy of Concord, and Andrea Leigh Almond of Richmond; two great grandchildren, Toby and Ashlee Almond; three sisters, Leola “Tootsie” Henderson of Concord, Merlie Reynolds of Appomattox, and Virginia Seville of Lynchburg; and a brother, Eddie Ferguson of Appomattox.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Leroy Ferguson and two sisters, Dorothy Carter and Shirley Childress.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff and administration of Runk and Pratt Leesville Road and to Seven Hills Hospice for the extra care and compassion in the last weeks.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Liberty Baptist Church, P.O. Box 485, Appomattox, VA 24522.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Liberty Baptist Church by the Reverends Rusty Small, Doug Lee and Jerry Childress. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, 304 Dabney Lane, Pamplin, VA.
