The Reverend Susan Dieterich Holland, a retired United Methodist minister, left to be with her Savior, Tuesday, September 25, 2018. She passed quietly at her home in Appomattox. She was born May 19, 1944 in Glen Ridge, NJ, the daughter of Phillip Armington Dieterich and Fay Inez Shank Dieterich. She was the loving and supporting wife of John Ivey Holland for 54 years.

Susan was a caring and proud mother of three daughters and took special pride in her three granddaughters. In addition to her husband she is survived by daughters, Amy Dare Oliver and husband, Kevin of Lexington, SC; Clare Grey Gregory and husband Scott of Evans, GA; and Susan Johana Kiser and husband, George of Mechanicsville; and granddaughters, Emily Claire, Anna Grace Oliver and Juliette Faye Kiser. She was preceded by her parents and a brother, P.A. Dieterich, Jr.

She started her education at the University of Maryland, and later with three toddlers in tow received an AB Degree with honors from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Later in her life she answered the call of the Lord, entered the Union Seminary in Richmond and received an M. Div. Degree. She served three churches in Buckingham County and one in Amherst County until having to retire due to health reasons. Locally she was an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church and served as a dedicated choir member. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend Russell Cheatham officiating. The family will meet with friends following the service.
