Roy Allen Moon, 95, died peacefully at home on October 4, 2018. He was a resident of Covenant Woods in Mechanicsville, VA. He was born in Appomattox County, VA, the son of William Archer Moon and Mattie Ethel Martin.
Roy was predeceased in 2006 by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Wellington DeWitt. He is survived by their son Robert DeWitt Moon and his wife Christine Tangney of Buffalo Grove, IL, and their daughter Chloe Killeen Moon of Washington, DC; their daughter Martha Wellington Moon and her partner Judith Heiman of Sacramento, CA; his sister Margaret Ann Moon of Lynchburg, VA; his beloved friend Elizabeth B. Taylor at Covenant Woods; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews and their families. His older brother, the Rev. William Archer Moon Jr., died in 2010.
Roy served in the Maritime Service in World War II. He attended Virginia Tech, earned his BS in Pharmacy from the Medical College of Virginia in 1950, and practiced pharmacy for 51 years, mainly in Appomattox.
Roy took up watercolor painting in September 2003 and created more than 200 works of art. In addition to painting, Roy enjoyed woodworking and photography over the years.
Highly regarded for his friendly, thoughtful, and cheery disposition, Roy will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Liberty Cemetery in Appomattox. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 2 PM in the Commons at Covenant Woods.
